Allow me to introduce myself. I originally hail from the sunshine state of Florida, where the crashing waves and surfboards have always held a special place in my heart. Growing up in St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US, I acquired invaluable skills as a leader and team player during my time in the Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scouts. In 1983, after completing high school, I made the decision to serve my country by enlisting in the US Army.
As a 19 Kilo Armor Crewman, I had the incredible opportunity to drive and operate tanks, a role that never failed to ignite a sense of awe within me. From 1986 to 1989, I served at 1-66 Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, TX. Following that, I briefly joined the Florida National Guard before serving with the Texas National Guard, 49th Armored Division, from 1990 to 1994. These experiences exposed me to a plethora of extraordinary events while fostering lifelong friendships.
Unfortunately, my military career was abruptly cut short due to a severe back injury. While on active-duty, I suffered an injury that resulted in significant damage to my back, leaving me with long-lasting physical limitations. As a result of this injury, I was eventually unable to continue serving. The injury has had a profound impact on various aspects of my life. It forced me to adjust my future plans and cope with the challenges of living with a disability. Despite the setbacks, I remain resilient and determined to overcome the obstacles that come my way. Being a service-connected disabled veteran has shaped my perspective and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by all who serve in the military. I am committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of fellow veterans and ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
While dedicated to my military service, I never neglected my education. In 1993, I earned an AAS in Computer Science from Central Texas College. During this time, fate brought me together with the love of my life, Barbara, and in 1993, we embarked on a journey of everlasting companionship through marriage. Relocating to Jacksonville, Florida, both Barbara and I found employment at Barnett Bank, which has since undergone various mergers and acquisitions. Throughout the bank’s transformations, I have remained steadfast in my commitment, currently serving at Bank of America via Black Box Network Services, ensuring the smooth operation of the network.
When I’m not immersed in the intricacies of my profession, you can find me cruising around town on my beloved Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe. Another passion of mine lies in collecting military firearms, spanning from the wars since WWI. The historical significance and mechanics of these artifacts never cease to captivate my interest. Furthermore, as a devoted animal lover, I have cared for several dogs and cats over the years, although presently our nest is empty.
Throughout my life, I have had the privilege of experiencing a variety of unique situations and events that have undoubtedly shaped the person I am today. Some of these experiences have been challenging, while others have been filled with joy and wonder. Nevertheless, I am eagerly looking forward to the numerous opportunities that await me in the future, and I am excited to see how they will continue to shape and mold me into the person I am destined to become.
